Most children and adolescents on the autism spectrum do not naturally learn to respond to social cues. Step-In’s Social Skills Group focuses on interactions and skills necessary for building and maintaining relationships. Each meeting is themed and includes pre-planned projects fostering peer interaction and appropriate communication skills.
Cohorts
Cohort groups are assigned based on age and developmental skill level. A commitment is required for participation as each member of the group is an important contributor in addition to learner. The group’s goals are developed with the members of each cohort and will focus on necessary societal rules and general social/behavioral expectations. These skills will have a large impact on a person’s life, increasing success to maintain friendships, participate in classrooms, and obtain/maintain employment.
Parents/caregivers are encouraged to participate when possible.
